MAKING CHANGES

Making Changes.png

Our CWIE Members are invited to volunteer at Making Changes and My Best Friend’s Closet to help sort and hang donated clothing at the Making Changes Association store.

Making Changes is passionate about helping women and teen girls going through life transitions to overcome barriers, open doors and create their own paths. Over the years, thousands of clients have found their way to them – each with their own unique story. For some, it’s as they prepare to re-enter the workforce or as new-to-Canada residents, while others find us because their lives took an unexpected turn.

For over 30 years and 250+ volunteers-rich, Making Changes Association has been integral to Calgary’s “women-helping-women” network. They work with 100+ referral partners representing immigrant and human services agencies, community groups, education, health and business.

Their clients’ success is everyone’s success. And it’s made possible thanks to their 250+ volunteers, staff, trusting clients and many community partners, donors and supporters. By working together, we’re each thriving in our own way.

Advancing futures for women. Together

About the Making Changes Program:

The Walk-In Closet provides 90-minute individual consultations on professional business attire to women facing financial barriers who want to join the work force, return to school or engage in volunteer opportunities. In addition to information on business culture and appropriate dress, participants are offered gently used clothing and accessories at no cost to help them look and feel their best.

About My Best Friend’s Closet Program:

My Best Friend’s Closet is a youth empowerment program at Making Changes. It provides teenage girls from low-income households with clothing and accessories to meet their school and recreational needs for the upcoming year—all at no cost to their families. My Best Friend’s Closet also provides valuable leadership and personal development opportunities to young women in the community who volunteer in the program. The young women act as peers or near peers to the girls they support.

Each program participant will receive a one-on-one 90-minute consultation with a volunteer image stylist to find an assortment of fun and fashionable school and recreational pieces.

We have the following dates available for volunteering in 2020:

Wednesday, October 28th, 2020 5:30 - 7:30 PM

Location: Making Changes Association, 6516 1A Street SW, Calgary

If you would like to volunteer for upcoming dates, please contact the Director of Community Involvement, Jenn Clarke jennifer.clarke@honeywell.com

We do understand that lives get busy and things do come up so we would ask for a minimum of 24 hours’ notice of any cancellations so that we have adequate coverage for volunteering. No skills are required, just your enthusiasm and smile.

Check out our events page for the next volunteer opportunity and keep an eye out in your inbox for the next invitation.  Colleagues, friends and industry professionals are all invited! If you're interested in joining the CWIE Team this is a great way to meet other members and be a part of our support for the Calgary community.
